Having allergies is stressful, of course, but that doesn’t mean it has to be. Here I want to share with you some tips to help you stay happy and reduce stress when dealing with allergies so that you can live as normal a life as possible and not let them stress you.

Know what you are dealing with

If you don’t actually know what allergies you have you could always be on edge. Imagine instead of worrying about always eating foods you know are safe, you have a choice and instead know simply what to avoid? If you can find out what you are allergic to then you can actually eat anything that doesn’t contain that. It may even be that you are not allergic to foods after all and it could be something environmental causing your reactions!

There are a few ways to approach narrowing down what you are allergic to but I would recommend allergy testing as the easiest and most straightforward method. Of course, if you prefer you could spend months writing diaries and eliminating different things in the aim of discovering the cause of reactions but this could also lead nowhere!

An allergy test can be done by the doctor or hospital but it is usually only done if your symptoms are severe, otherwise, you would need to pay privately. If this is the case a home allergy test from somewhere like Klarify could be just what you need.

Plan ahead

If you are dealing with food allergies I can promise you that planning ahead really does make all the difference. Most places now have an online menu you can view including allergy menus and lists so you can see the ingredients in meals. I was thoroughly impressed recently at Pizza Express as they have all the ingredients listed not just the most common allergies! It makes such a difference especially when you have an allergy that isn’t as common. My son has a cinnamon allergy which is hard when you can not see the full ingredients list so going out somewhere as helpful as this makes all the difference.

Also planning ahead can involve planning your visits to friends or family and asking them in advance to do or not do certain things. Sometimes it could be as simple as asking them to not spray any air freshener before you visit or to make sure any food they serve does not contain nuts. By making that little step to plan ahead you could save yourself so much stress.

Make long term changes

Instead of taking regular antihistamines, for example, making changes to the products you use in your home could take a lot of the stress of having allergies away. Why not consider changing washing powder or air freshener if these could make a difference and see how you get on.

Whatever you do remember that you can live well with allergies it just takes some adapting to!
